A MUM scooped £60,000 on Dragon’s Den last night after wowing the panel with her plant-based skincare and health supplement brand.

Caroline Sims overcame her anxiety and braved the BBC lair – walking away with investments from Steven Bartlett and Peter Jones.

The mum appeared on the hit BBC show on March 23

The 32-year-old wanted to launch her own range of products after suffering with acne as a teenager, which persisted well into adulthood and knocked her confidence.

“I cancelled plans with friends and no longer let my partner see me without make-up,” she said.

Caroline, from Watford, Hertfordshire, struggled to find options that weren’t full of chemicals or “wreaked havoc” with her hormones, so Botanycl was born.

She was initially asked to appear on Dragons’ Den three years ago but turned the opportunity down due to crippling anxiety and a fear of public speaking.

But she overcame her worries and featured on the hit programme on March 23.

The new mother told the Watford Observer: “I had a chance to go into the Den in 2019 but I backed out as my anxiety was so bad – I was on medication for it.

“When I had a second chance, I forced myself to say yes.

“I had three days to prepare, drove to Manchester and had an anxiety attack when I got to the studio.

“I cried to the producers who were wonderful and kindly placed a stool in the Den to help with my nerves.”

Caroline entered the Den hoping for a £60,000 investment in return for a 10 per cent share in the company.

And despite her “heart racing” and being terrified her “nerves would get the better of her”, she impressed them with her pitch.

The entrepreneur negotiated a deal with two Dragons for the full amount for 25 per cent equity (12.5 per cent each), dropping to 20 per cent if the pair get their money back within 18 months.

Caroline, who was two months pregnant at the time, said: “I still can’t believe I overcame my anxiety and fear of public speaking and left the Den with two dragons.”

Peter, estimated to be worth £1.157billion in 2021, said: “The lengths Caroline has gone to to find a solution to her skin problems are inspiring.

“The product’s results look fantastic. It’s great to be part of the journey.”

Steven, who has been valued at £68m, added: “The brand is filling a gap in a large, and mostly untapped market when it comes to treating the hormonal aspects of skin.”

Botanycl products use plant-based herbal ingredients to help balance hormones and clear skin.

The range, including the SkinClear Elixir, is available on the official website, in Holland & Barrett and at Superdrug online.
