I Thought About Quitting Married at First Sight, but the Drama Kept Me Hooked

I Thought About Quitting Married at First Sight, but the Drama Kept Me Hooked

A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Toxicity of the Show

Married at First Sight UK is about to return to our screens, and if this year's line-up is any indication, there's going to be a lot of drama. As a former bride on the show, I can't wait to watch it unfold from the comfort of my living room. But let me tell you, being a part of the 'experiment' was not what I expected. The producers had to talk me out of quitting before the show even started because I had no idea how toxic it would be.

The Manipulation Behind the Cameras

Being on Married at First Sight gave me a whole new perspective on reality TV. From the moment we started filming, there were story producers constantly watching us and taking notes. They would often come to our home and demand that we have tense conversations, turning a light-hearted moment into something serious in an instant. It made me question whether the big rows we see on-screen are genuine or just for the cameras. It's hard to forget their presence, even when watching the show now.

Looking for Love, Not Fame

Unlike some of the contestants from previous seasons, I genuinely went on Married at First Sight in search of love. I didn't need the show for fame or brand deals; I already had that. My only barrier to finding someone was time, and lockdown made it even harder. So, I took a chance and signed up. Little did I know that the UK version had taken inspiration from the much more dramatic Australian format. It was a wild ride that I wouldn't trade, even knowing how toxic it could be.

A Lesson in Reality TV

The contestants on Married at First Sight now know what they're getting into. They're hungry for fame, just like the Love Island contestants, and each year they try to outdo the previous season's characters. It's going to be a bit ridiculous, but that's what makes great television. I'm especially proud of the diversity in this year's cast, including an amputee and a trans girl. Channel 4 has always been good at showcasing diversity, and I was honored to be a part of the series that featured the first same-sex marriage. From first impressions, Jay and Ella are already my favorites.
