I was on Come Dine with Me and the taxis home are a total sham – they aren’t actually taking us home

A former Come Dine With Me contestant has revealed how the show’s taxi’s home are a ‘sham’.

The Channel 4 show has been airing since January 2005 and sees five members of the public from the same area compete to be voted as the best host and win a cash prize.

Contestants deliver their scores in the back of a black cab, but it doesn’t take them home

Katy Spence appeared on the show in 2014 and has been sharing behind-the-scenes revelations on her TikTok.

Having previously revealed how it cost her £600 to host her evening and attend the other people’s dinners, Katy has now dropped a bombshell about the show’s taxis.

At the end of each episode once a person’s meal has concluded, the other contestants score their evening while in the back of a black cab.

However, Katy said on TikTok: “This one might make some of you really sad and I’m so sorry, we don’t go home in black taxis.

“Firstly, I live in Lincolnshire, so there aren’t an awful lot of black cabs anyway, and secondly, the crew are in the cab with you!

“So you’ve got the cameraman, the producer, the sound guy, you can’t take them all home with you, it just wouldn’t work.”

She then went on to explain how the journeys home do work.

She said: “At the end of the night you are taken outside one by one to the single black taxi.

“You get in the taxi with the producer, the cameraman, the sound guy, the light guy and you drive around while filming your review.

“They interview you, like I’ve said before, some contestants give more than one vote.

“Then once you’ve done that you go back into the host’s house – sometimes awkwardly if you’ve said things about them – then you sit there and wait until everyone’s had a go then your real taxi comes to get you to take you home.

“That end bit can take, an hour…hour and a half? That’s the bit I tell people where they go ‘Noooo’…Yeah. That’s how that works.”
