In an exclusive chat with The Celeb Report, the marketer, from Watford, opened up about all things that fans don’t get to see on the programme.
As we already know, bakers are given a certain amount of time to complete each task – but they all have to use that very wisely because the cameras are always rolling.
Steven told The Celeb Report: “It’s like a tightly run ship. There can be no mistakes because you cannot stop filming.”
So when he accidentally cut his finger, he decided to keep it a secret and carry on as normal.
Recalling the time it had happened in the famous tent, Steven added: “I mean, if anything happens, if you cut your hand off, you just fluff it off and carry on.
“In fact, I did that in biscuit week, it was for the final showstopper. I was building my chest set out of biscuits.
“I don’t know why I was using a knife because it didn’t need to, but I cut my little finger.
“The knives were brand new each season so they were like razor blades.
“I wasn’t really looking and I think it was my story producer looked at me and was like ‘Steven, your hand!’ and I went ‘What? Oh my god!’
“So I ran it under the tap, wrapped it in kitchen row and I shoved it in my pocket.
“I finished the bake with one hand only.”
However there was one exception when one of the bakers was given extra time.
Steven confessed: “I think filming has stopped once when Rahul’s glass jar exploded in the final.
“So something exploded and they just had to give him a couple of minutes extra time because of health and safety. But that’s the only time filming has ever stopped.”
The reality star also opened up about how he managed to keep his identity a secret while filming.
Steven and the bakers had to take lots of extra precautions to make sure that they didn’t let anything slip.
“We were each assigned a press protection officer and then there were security on site 24/7 basically,” he told us.
“What we didn’t see was the the perimeter security so they were the ones keeping the photographers out.
“As we were baking in the tent, when we’d finished and we’d left we had to stop in the entryway and take our aprons off and give our aprons to an assigned member of the crew.
“So if anybody got photographed, it was a crew member. And we then looked like part of the crew. It was just stuff like that. And they were like, if you if you have dark glasses, please wear them.”
