A GRAND Designs couple have given a stern warning to anyone thinking of appearing on the Channel 4 show.
Presenter Kevin McCloud follows some of Britain’s most ambitious self-building projects, as intrepid individuals attempt to design and construct the home of their dreams.

Rob and Kay Hodgson constructed a new-build on a dramatic cliff-side
Back in 2014, Rob and Kay Hodgson took part in the property show as they constructed a new-build on a dramatic cliff-side in Wales.
The sleek glass-fronted villa was located on Cefn Castell on the Ceredigion coast, that erosion specialists predict would fall into the sea.
There was plenty of work carried out to get a comprehensive survey done by a coastal expert.
Rob has since shared his experience of what it’s really like putting their home on a property renovation programme.
“I understand the focus on the cliff – it was an aspect of the project and, of course, the production company needed to bring that aspect to the forefront of the story,” he told Wales Online.
Rob confessed there is one thing that people are desperate to know about the mansion when they meet him.
He continued: “People who pass by on the coastal path now always want to chat and most of them ask about the cliff issue but it hasn’t moved.
“Props have been in place for years now and we’ve not lost any more than about 10 cm of it.”
He also frequently gets asked what presenter Kevin is like off-screen, with Rob always praising the host as a “clever, charming and approachable” person.
After putting blood, sweat and tears into developing his dream home while the cameras were rolling.
He has since reflected on his time on the show and encouraged other potential applicants to do the show – but gave them a stern warning.
Rob explained that there can be some disadvantages, saying being under the spotlight can “add pressure” during an already stressful time.
He urged anyone signing up for the show to “go into it with your eyes open”.
Rob also reminded future show guests that they have no control over the editing process.
“The crew are in the business of constructing a watchable show and they want a story so you need to be sure that, whatever comes out, whether you like it or not, it will be part of the story,” he said.
Despite not receiving any money to spent on the build, Rob explained that you can make deals with large suppliers and get discounts with companies keen to get publicity on the show.
