Iconic 80s BBC Detective Series Set to Return to TV Screens with New Face in Title Role

Bergerac Reboot in the Works

The classic telly detective drama Bergerac is potentially making a comeback to our TV screens. The BBC show, which starred John Nettles as Jim Bergerac and was set in Jersey, ended in 1991 after a successful ten-year run. Now, a reboot with a new face in the title role is on the horizon, with an unnamed streaming service reportedly on board.

Star-Studded Casting Speculations

Speculations are rife about who might step into the shoes of the iconic detective. Names like Poldark actor Aidan Turner, Doctor Who star David Tennant, and Happy Valley's James Norton have been thrown into the mix. Additionally, there have been talks of a cameo for John Nettles, who originally portrayed Bergerac.

Excitement Builds for Potential Filming

A source close to the project revealed that if all goes well, filming could commence in the summer. Former chief minister of Jersey, Kristina Moore, expressed enthusiasm about the potential return of Bergerac, stating that it would be a significant boost for the island.

Controversy Surrounding the Revival

In 2021, Bergerac faced criticism for its portrayal of outdated attitudes, racist language, and offensive humor. One particular episode, titled "Always Leave Them Laughing," came under fire for its handling of sensitive topics like attempted rape. Despite the backlash, plans for the reboot seem to be moving forward.
