NICK Knowles has revealed he gained four stone in lockdown and now weighs 18 stone.
The DIY SOS star, 59, vowed to get back in shape after munching “all the pies” at home, admitting: “I’m massive”.
He told The Mirror: “I’ve made a living by looking like a bag of spanners on TV. I’m 18 stone, I’m massive.
“I’m always on building sites. During lockdown I put on almost four stone. I’ve taken two stone off now and I’m getting fit again.”
Nick was cruelly trolled last year after he appeared in a wet suit for the DIY SOS Children In Need Special.
Asked during a TV interview if the comments upset him, Nick said:”No because the thing is I put on a lot of weight during the first lockdown.
“I couldn’t do any training, I was doing a lot of writing, a lot of banana bread and I grew a big beard and stayed in and I wrote a lot.”
Nick, who said he embraced his weight gain, went on to explain the feedback he had received from his appearance for charity.
“There was a combination of what an amazing job and also who ate all the pies? Well I did,” he said.
“You do whatever you have to do to get through lockdown.”
Meanwhile Nick — who has fronted DIY SOS for 21 years — landed himself in hot water with executives earlier this year by playing a builder in a commercial for Shreddies.
The big-money deal was at odds with Beeb rules, prompting a major dispute in which he was threatened with the axe.
Fortunately BBC bosses agreed to see keep him on and he recently returned to filming.
