I’m 47 and I still don’t trust men because of my absent dad, says Alison Hammond

THIS Morning presenter Alison Hammond said she has never trusted men after growing up without a father around.

Her late dad Clifford, who split from mum Maria, was a drug-smuggler in Jamaica. It made Hammond strive to “be in charge” in relationships.

But she told Big Issue magazine she is trying to be “more trusting”.

The mum of one, 47, who revealed last week she is in a relationship, said: “The fact I didn’t have my father in my life shaped the way it’s gone.

“And it shaped the way I interact with men in relationships. I always want to be in charge. I don’t trust men because my dad wasn’t ever there.

“I’m working on that now in my forties. I’m more trusting.”

Hammond had been trying to keep her new boyfriends existence hidden but co-host Dermot O’Leary, 49, let slip she was “taken” on the shoe last week.

Speaking about her new man for the first time, Alison revealed: “Can you believe Dermot outed me on the TV? I’m a little bit disappointed to be honest with you as I can’t flirt with no one else now.

“He’s a lovely man and all I can say is that I’ve had him hidden for a year and a half. A year and a half I’ve been with him, and no one knew! He loves me to bits. He absolutely worships me and massages my feet every single day. What more do you want?!”

It comes as Alison has bid to host the next series of the Big Brother if it returns to telly.

The TV star admitted she would jump at the chance to host a series of the popular reality show – which came to an end in 2018.

She rose to fame on Big Brother back in 2002, alongside Jade Goody.

Rumours have been swirling that the long-running show – which aired for 18 years from 2000 – has a planned comeback in 2023.

Speculation has grown that ITV has bought the rights to revive the former Channel 4 programme next year.

Now, Alison – who survived just over two weeks on the programme – has been pipped as the potential host should it return.

The star told The Late-ish Show with Mo Gilligan that she would love to take up the hosting role should they decide to bring it back.

Asked if she thought she would be good at presenting the show, she replied: “I think so. They need to change it up a bit.

“We’ve got to put it out there to the universe. Let’s make it happen!”
