Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny review: A decent last crusade for much-loved Harrison Ford

★★★☆☆

IF you like the thrill of the chase, you’ll love this latest — and last — instalment from Indy and pals, as they never seem to stop pursuing each other.

Running through trains, planes, and museums and even trying to catch each other under the sea, it is often a little exhausting.

Harrison Ford and Phoebe Waller-Bridge star in the new Indy flick

In 1944, archaeologist Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) retrieves one half of an ancient dial, built by Archimedes, from Nazi scientist Jurgen Voller (Mads Mikkelsen).

Fast forward to 1969, where a divorced Dr Jones lives in a filthy New York apartment with partying neighbours who keep him awake all night.

He is on the verge of retirement and self-medicating with booze.

That is until his god-daughter Helena (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) turns up, quickly bringing havoc to his life in wanting to join forces with the great man to change history forever.

While this can’t match the brilliance of 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark, it far surpasses the agonising Kingdom of the Crystal Skull from 2008.

There’s plenty of stunts, spectacle and silly nods to the originals.

Ford puts in a mighty fine turn at the age of 80 and it’s a joy seeing him back in the fedora and leather jacket.

It makes this a paint-by-numbers nostalgic action film that’s a decent last crusade for the much-loved character.
