BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker has ticked off the major Rome tourist spots as he gives fans a rare glimpse at his family.
The BBC Breakfast host, 44, headed to the Italian capital with his wife, Sarah, and their three children.
Dan has been sharing the highlights of the family’s half-term trip including the sweet note he received from a fan on their flight over there.
Describing it as the “perfect family half-term escape”, Dan shared some rare photos of his teenage children.
“Rome is officially a lovely place to visit,” he declared on his Instagram stories.
Sensibly dressed to take in all the sights, Dan carried a black backpack as he smiled back towards the camera and protectively held his daughters’ hands.
On their whirlwind trip, Dan shared photo of the Roman Forum, Colosseum and inside the Vatican.
“Love this place,” Dan wrote on a photo outside the iconic Colosseum structure.
The family visited the world famous Trevi Fountain at night with Dan telling his fans to “name that fountain”.
Dan – who is a devout Christian – shared plenty of photos from within the Vatican including the perfectly manicured gardens and a huge bath “thought to be a gift from the actual Cleopatra.”
He posed proudly with his youngest outside of the Vatican, but covered his son’s face with an Italian flag emoji to protect his privacy.
“Me and the lad in Rome,” he captioned the father-son pic.
The BBC journalist also kept fans salivating with the delicious food he was enjoying including cheese balls and gnocchi.
Along with sharing plenty of photos from other famous Roman landmarks, Dan took the time to marvel at an Italian vending machine selling salmon sandwiches.
He noted the use by date on the sandwich and asked, “and amazingly… how can this vending machine salmon sandwich last until March 10th? That’s 21 days away!!!”
Dan also shared the heartwarming note he received on his flight from some young fans.
Riya, nine, and Asha, five, slid him the note on the plane to tell Dan that he and his Strictly Come Dancing partner Nadiya Bychkova, were their favourites on the show.
The note read: “Dear Dan, my mummy said not to disturb you as you’re on holiday with your family. I recognised you and just wanted to say hello.
“We are huge fans and thought you were great on Strictly. Hope you have a lovely time in Rome. Best Wishes, Riya (aged nine) and Asha (aged five).”
The kids finished the note with a smily face and Dan shared it to his Instagram stories.
He wrote: “And thank you to the gorgeous Riya & Asha who gave me this after sitting opposite us on the flight to Rome.
“It was lovely to have a chat with them & as promised I will tell @nadiyabychkova that we were your favourites.”
Nadiya, 32, has just wrapped the Strictly live tour which Dan declined to do because his faith prevents him working on Sundays.
“I’ve been a Christian for a long time and my faith has always been really important to me,” he told The Celeb Report.
“It’s at the centre of who I am, what I think, what I do.
“I know people talk a lot about me not working on a Sunday but this industry can be all-encompassing if you let it. I’ve turned down loads of amazing jobs because of it.
“I don’t want to let work take over. My sister is a nurse, she works on a Sunday and that’s great, but I’ve taken that decision to have Sunday as the day I go to church and a day I get to spend with my family.”
