A high-speed chase ended up with Linda and Janine’s car eventually going off a cliff

Danny, 45, who has played the pub landlord for nine years, said: “My last scene, I was smothered in broccoli.

“The water tank, they fill it with broccoli juice to make it green. It is like a bath temperature. I was very tearful and I was all emotional — but I smelt like broccoli. It softened the blow.”

Viewers last night saw Mick being told that his new wife Janine framed his ex Linda’s drink-drive car crash.

It leads to a high-speed chase, with Linda and Janine’s car eventually going over a cliff. Mick then dives in to the water, pulling Janine from the wreckage.

Linda also manages to free herself as Mick is seen diving down again before disappearing.

Danny told how he tried to “attack” the scenes filmed last month in Ramsgate, Kent.

He said: “I wanted it to be more cinematic and take EastEnders to another level. I don’t think we are known for our show being sexy.

“We tackle really tough subjects. It is such a tough gig. It is so intense. But when we get it right, I don’t think there is any other show like it on TV.”

Kellie Bright, who plays Linda, said she will find life hard without Mick.

The 46-year-old added: “Let’s just say Linda does not get over this any time soon. He is the love of her life.”

Show boss Chris Clenshaw also revealed Linda would be “at the centre” of an exciting new EastEnders storyline.

He said: “She will shoot something in January which goes out in February and it is something we as a show have not done before.”
