Inside The Chase star Darragh Ennis’ life off screen – from rarely-seen wife to flesh-flashing home video

THE Chase has just celebrated its 13th anniversary, with the first episode of the ITV show airing on June 29, 2009.

Hosted by Bradley Walsh, the show sees four contestants go up against one of the Chasers.

Darragh Ennis is the newest cast member, joining in season 13.

Also known as The Menace, he joins Anne Hegarty, Jenny Ryan, Mark Labbett, Shaun Wallace and Paul Sinha on the show.

The quizzing expert actually joined the show after appearing on it as a contestant back in March 2017.

Darragh, 41, famously beat Paul Sinha during his episode, and ended up joining the show’s cast three years later in 2020.

The brainy Irishman racked up £9,000 in the cash builder round, and stated if he won the show, he would be buying himself a new back door.

Sadly, his team didn’t actually end up winning the money in the final round.

Darragh’s incredible performance on the show didn’t go unnoticed, and fans raged that he personally deserved the jackpot.

The outrage was so widespread that a GoFundMen was created, and the money raised.

The star insisted that the money was donated to charity, and he didn’t accept it.

Darragh’s career before becoming a TV star was in science, as he gained a degree in biology in 2002, and a PhD in ecology in 2008, both from Maynooth University.

After completing his doctorate, he headed out to Concordia University in Montreal, Canada.

Here he conducted postdoctoral research for two years, from 2010 to 2012.

After returning home in 2013, he started work at the University of Oxford.

He works as a lab manager and research technician alongside his TV career, spending his time researching the brains of insects.

Darragh is happily married, but doesn’t reveal much about his wife.

The star has explained that he and his other half actually met at university, and have been in love ever since.

He told the Daily Star: “We’re both Irish. We met in Maynooth University, we did our degrees and PhDs there.

“We were in labs down the hall from each other and she’s from Kildare.”

Despite the quizzer being very much in love, he’s previously joked that he’s had many marriage proposals since being on The Chase.

He told the publication: “Since I started on The Chase I’ve had many marriage proposals.

“I must have had about 40 people asking if I’m married or would I marry them and would I meet up with them.”

Outside of work, the Chaser loves mucking about online.

Darragh’s fans recently went wild after he posted a video on Instagram of himself topless.

He spoke to his 12.3K fans, telling them he was ready to enjoy a spot of swimming.

He told the camera: “Right, time for some cold water swimming,” before he turned around and dove into the pool.
