NEW BBC One drama seris Ridley Road is set to hit our TV screens this weekend – much to the excitement of fans of the novel.
And with the cast jam-packed full of newcomers to the silver screen – there’s plenty to unravel before it gets started on Saturday night.

Tom Varey is set to star as Jack Morris – the boyfriend and mysterious co-sar of protagonist Viviein Epstein, a Jewish undercover spy.
His character is set to be as enigmatic on-screen as he is off, with Tom keeping himself to himself when he’s not behind the cameras.
While he has starred in dramas including Pond Life, Game of Thrones and The Village, he still remains relatively unknown to many telly fans.
Keeping his life away from the prying eyes of social media users, we’ve saved you the time trawling through to look for more!
Ahead of the first episode of Ridley Road this weekend, here’s the lowdown on Tom’s life – from famous girlfriends to Hollywood dramas.
TELLY STARDOM
Tom, 29, is set to star as Jack in the new BBC One drama Ridley Road, as the boyfriend of Vivien Epstein, played by Agnes O’Casey in her debut TV role.
His character has been making frequent unexplained trips to London, and when he disappears again, Vivein does her best to track him down.
But instead of finding him, her enquiries lead her to Jewish anti-fascist organisation the 62 Group – going undercover in the neo-Nazi National Socialist Movement.
Tom’s new role won’t be his first time in front of the camera, however – as just last year he featured in crime drama Death in Paradise.
He also has starred in drama film Pond Life, and had a long-term role on comedy series Ackley Bridge playing Will Simpson.
Tom rose to fame, however, in his role as Bert Middleton in The Village, shortly after graduating from the Royal Acadamy of Dramatic Art in 2014.
He went on to briefly play Cley Cerwyn in Game of Thrones, who featured throughout season six of the HBO show.
OFF-SCREEN ROMANCES
Tom was dating Normal People star Daisy Edgar-Jones until February 2021, when they split up after two years together.
The couple had met on Pond Life back in 2018, before Daisy went on to play Marianne in the hit BBC3 show, shooting her to stardom.
Daisy and Tom lived together in London during lockdown, but she moved back to her parent’s house in North London last year.
The couple were said to have called it quits so that he and Daisy, 23, could both focus on their careers as they drifted in different directions.
An insider explained: “They got on really well during lockdown last year, but they’re both young and passionate about following their careers.
“Daisy has been inundated with opportunities and feels she has to put them first, Tom’s also really dedicated to his acting and wants the best for both of them.
“They were sad they couldn’t make it work, but are still close and there’s no hard feelings.”
