ITV Announces Channel Closure and Reality TV Line-Up Shuffle

ITV is shaking things up in the world of reality TV as it announces the closure of one of its major channels and the relocation of popular show The Only Way Is Essex (Towie) to ITV2. This move comes in the wake of the immense success of shows like Love Island.

Big Move for Towie

Towie, currently airing on ITVBe, will be making the switch to ITV2, which has been basking in the glory of hits like Love Island and its All Stars spin-off, recently won by Casey and Gabby.

New Home for Reality TV

With ITV2 becoming the new hub for reality TV, future series of Towie and other reality shows will find their home on this channel. This decision comes as ITVBe prepares to shut down in June, with Towie's new series set to debut on ITV2 in the Autumn.

Love Island continues to reign as one of ITV's biggest shows, with the 2024 series launch pulling in a whopping 2.2 million viewers. The show and its spin-offs have garnered a staggering 2.2 billion streams, while Big Brother, now under ITV's wing, has crossed the 100 million stream mark since its move in 2023.

A New Chapter for Towie

As the longest-running reality show on ITV since its launch in 2010, Towie has seen its fair share of ups and downs in viewership. While the first series finale drew in 737,000 viewers, recent reports showed a decline to less than 50,000 viewers. However, with a strong streaming presence of 66 million viewers in the last year, hopes are high for a resurgence on the new channel.

Other popular shows on ITVBe like The Real Housewives of Cheshire and The Bardsley Bunch will also need to find a new home as the channel prepares to bid farewell.
