Good Morning Britain anchor Kate Garraway crosses over to former BBC Breakfast star Louise Minchin
ITV has undergone a major presenter shake-up as Lorraine Kelly was absent from her own show. During a preview for the Lorraine show on Friday, the Scottish broadcaster was nowhere to be seen. Instead, Good Morning Britain anchor Kate Garraway crossed over to former BBC Breakfast star Louise Minchin, who will be stepping in for Kelly. Lorraine regularly takes Fridays off, and the show usually relies on guest presenters Christine Lampard or Ranvir Singh.
Louise Minchin's Battle Against Discrimination
Louise Minchin, one of BBC Breakfast's most popular presenters, recently spoke out about the discrimination she faced while working on the show. In her new book, Minchin reveals that she was often snubbed by show bosses, who consistently chose her male colleague to open the program and do the first interview. Despite her wealth of experience as a journalist and presenter, Minchin was always given a secondary role. She confronted the program's directors and kept a diary of the discrepancies. Eventually, her persistence paid off, and she was able to take on a more prominent role. In 2021, after 15 years on the show, Minchin decided to quit and participated in the reality show I'm a Celebrity.
Equal Pay Battle and Behind-the-Scenes Issues
In addition to facing discrimination based on her gender, Louise Minchin also fought for equal pay on BBC Breakfast. She reveals in her book that she engaged in a "long battle" to be paid the same wage as her male co-star. The book delves into more behind-the-scenes issues at BBC Breakfast and sheds light on the systemic discrimination that Minchin experienced during her time on the show.
