The TV chef caused a stir online

All meals claimed to be be able to be made for £1 per portion or less.

However, the programme received a mixed reception with many calling out hypocrisy over the programme being sponsored by a high-end supermarket known for its expensive prices.

Waitrose underwrote the show with some viewers calling it ‘tone-deaf’ whilst other accused Jamie of cashing in on the current cost of living crisis despite him being a top earner.

Taking to Twitter, many were quick to express their thoughts on the show and it appeared the programme fell flat for many viewers.

NOT HAPPY

The One Show viewers rage at 'patronising' Jamie Oliver as he makes 'budget' meal

One said: “What has this country come to. I can’t believe on channel 4, Jamie Oliver is cooking canned beans on the stove as the oven costs too much and boiling water in a pan as it costs less than a kettle. Things really have to change ASAP in this country.”

Another fan raged at ‘millionaire’ Jamie, claiming: “Loving the show but a millionaire telling me frozen broccoli is better value is a bit tone deaf”

A third viewer commented: “#JamiesOnePoundWonders I want to believe that Jamie Oliver’s heart is in the right place (and he’s not simply cashing in on poverty) but c’mon. The guy has no idea what meat and other fresh produce cost. He has no idea about the cost of public transport and cooking/heating.”

One fan wrote:  “Bit confused who this Jamie Oliver show is aimed at. £1 meals (in reality £6 meals that serve 6) being cooked in the best provisioned kitchen I’ve ever seen, top quality pans, endless fridge/freezer space. Not the strongest vibes of seriously understanding poverty”

With a fifth adding: “Jamie Oliver doing a show where you can allegedly make meals for a pound in an attempt to help with the cost of living crisis but the show is sponsored by Waitrose. You can’t make it up lmao.”

Despite the feeling amongst viewers of Jamie being out of his depth presenting such a programme, some viewers remained positive, praising the dishes the celebrity chef was able to make.

One fan delightfully said: “Just watched @jamieoliver #jamiesonepoundwonders and was seriously impressed. Great tips and loved every dish shown. Always watch his programs but was seriously impressed #goodfood.”

As another added:  “Some of the delicious looking and easiest to make dishes ever on TV. Never mind the cost to make. Well done Jamie”

Amongst some of the recipes TV host Jamie guided the viewers through were a vegetable curry made in the microwave, a half-meat half-veg bolognese and a frozen veg based lasagne.
