The couple brought the clay imprint of their late son David’s footprints, which were taken just days before he passed away at five months old.

Emese said: “We did the footprints at the hospital a couple of days before he passed away so it’s really precious to us.”

She revealed that she took David to A&E one night and they said he had cardiac arrest.

That’s when she discovered that he had “a very serious heart condition and the doctors couldn’t do anything for him”.

Emese continued: “The hardest [thing] was cause they said that we could decide when wanted the life-support to be turned off. And I said to Luke, ‘I can’t decide it’. As a mother, you should never,” before breaking down in tears.

Her husband comforted her and then added: “Those last days are just etched on your heart forever, y’know? [It was] just precious to be able to say goodbye.”

Emese chimed in: “We would just love to see our little boy’s perfect little footprints as they were.”

Jay appeared teary-eyed as he listened to Emese and Luke’s heart breaking story.

As the couple left, Jay was seen emotional, breathing in deeply and trying to be composing himself.

Ceramics expert Kirsten Ramsay got to work on restoring the delicate clay imprint which had cracked.

Upon the big reveal, Emese and Luke were overcome with emotion.

Luke said that it brought back memories of the couple’s final days with their son.

He revealed: “Just in those last hours, he opened his eyes for us and was looking at us.

“That’s what I think of when I see these feet, the last hours that we had with him.”

Emese added: “This will now be a reminder of him and a comfort.”

The couple expressed their gratitude for Kirsten’s restoration work.

Jay described Emese and Luke as “very brave” for sharing their story.

Taking to Twitter, viewers were in tears as one said: “Naturally I will be crying again tonight. The couple who’s five-month-old baby died will have a lot of us crying tonight.”

Another wrote: “Superb tonight. David’s footprints were heart breaking but so nice to see them repaired. That terrarium was amazing.”

A third penned: “Kirsten has done an amazing job. My goodness, what a weight of responsibility… such a moving television moment.”

The Repair Shop continues from 8pm on Wednesday on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
