Jeremy's British-only promise
Jeremy Clarkson recently disclosed that he's facing significant financial losses at his newly-opened pub, The Farmer's Dog, in the Cotswolds. Before opening the pub, the TV star vowed to use only British ingredients, even going as far as banning ketchup and Coca-Cola from the menu.
Challenges with British-only sourcing
Despite his best efforts, Jeremy admitted that sticking to British-only produce has proven to be more costly than he anticipated. Imported ingredients like black pepper are ten times more expensive than their British counterparts, leading to higher costs for menu items.
Confessions and exceptions
Jeremy confessed that he couldn't completely fulfill his British-only promise, with one specific drink, the gin and tonic, breaking the rule due to the unavailability of quinine in Britain. However, he remains committed to serving British produce, including meat, dairy, vegetables, and even British-made wine.
Supporting British farming
Despite the challenges, Jeremy expressed his delight in supporting British farmers and showcasing locally-sourced products at The Farmer's Dog. He emphasized the pub's dedication to British-sourced fizzy drinks, tea, and wine, along with the popular Hawkstone Beer.
New limited edition beer
Jeremy Clarkson also announced the release of a new harvest limited edition beer, Hawkstone Harvest 5.2%, to celebrate the completion of the harvest. This special brew is exclusively available to members, known as Hawkstonians, who were given a preview of The Farmer's Dog before its official opening.
