Todays episode was no different, with Jeremy, 57, and the panel discussing a story about a woman whose six-year-old child who wasn’t toilet trained.

It prompted a debate about the right age to toilet train a child, especially in relation to kids starting school at the age of four.

Viewers immediately took to Twitter to share their opinions, and they were mixed to say the least.

One wrote: “Not toilet trained at 6? F*** me.. I had mastered p***ing over the toilet door at 4.”

Another added: “My friend has a 5 year old who can’t use a toilet alone. She is the fault not the child.”

A third tweeted: “If children are entering education still in nappies and with no basic language skills, then it is the fault of lazy incompetent parenting.”

Meanwhile a fourth raged: “What’s wrong with these parents ?? Why aren’t their children potty trained or can speak ?? Unless they have a diagnosed condition it’s lazy stupid parenting.”

But another argued: “I’m offended by some of the suggestions that it’s parents fault, my son was born during the pandemic and has been waiting for a salt assessment for 18 months because he doesn’t talk and fear he may have autism.”

A fellow viewer wrote: “It’s not the age it’s the child and their development.

“Some children are very ready for school at 3 years of age… stop limiting child development by age!! Parents & guardians can do more particularly in toilet training. Smaller classes are needed and a better system.”

Jeremy Vine airs weekdays at 9.15am on Channel 5.
