However, Jon has now given fans a glimpse of the newly refurbished studios, with behind-the-scenes snaps on Instagram.

The news anchor shared a photo with his BBC colleagues, including co-star Sally Nugent and weather presenter Carol Kirkwood.

He revealed to fans how hard everyone worked to get this “fantastic space” on the air and how it will provide the show more possibilities to “tell and explain stories” to the show’s 5 million daily viewers.

Jon captioned the post: “On air! Our fab technical and production teams have worked so hard to get this new studio ready for BBC Breakfast It’s a fantastic space and will give us loads more options to tell and explain stories for our 5 million viewers every morning.”

He also shared a collage of photos from the new studio on Instagram stories, and praised the team for working “tirelessly over the past weeks” to get this done.

The journalist penned: “So proud of everyone who worked tirelessly over the past weeks to get this on air. Amazing team! It’s fresh, bright impactful and above all still brilliant.”

It is the first time in over a decade that the popular morning programme has been given a makeover.

The studio, however, was not well received by BBC Breakfast viewers, who rushed to social media to criticise it for appearing “cheap” and “claustrophobic.”

One wrote: “Claustrophobic new studio! Zoom out the background graphic so those buildings aren’t towering over the presenters and get the cameras back further if there’s room! Have they cut your budget?”

A second fumed: “I hate to be that guy, but the new studio is not nice. It looks very cheap, like a channel 5 studio.”
