The first act of the Kanye West documentary, Jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy, premiered on Netflix on February 16, 2022.

Clarence “Coodie” Simmons and Chike Ozah are the directors of this documentary, which was described as a “once in a lifetime three-week global event.”

The documentary directors are former collaborators of the Netflix project’s subject and worked with the rapper on numerous occassions.

Codie and Chike are the team responsible for creating many of Kanye’s music videos such as Jesus Walks and Through the Wire.

The second act will premiere on February 23, the third act follows on March 2.

What is Kanye West’s documentary about?

The trailer released in January featured Kanye and fellow musician Rhymefest in a studio debating over whether or not Kanye was a genius in 2002.

Additionally, the trailer shows well-known faces such as Pharrell, Jay-Z, and Kid Cudi in the studio with Kanye.

In commenting on the video, Time Studios president, Ian Orefice, who is also the producer of this documentary stated: “Filmmakers Coodie and Chike have created an extraordinary film and we’re honored that they have trusted TIME Studios to produce Jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy.”

The documentary chronicles Kanye’s rise from a behind the scenes songwriter in the late 1990’s to the mainstream hitmaker and producer audiences came to know.

What did Kanye say?

Upon the drop of Jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy’s teaser trailer, the rapper took to Instagram to express his thoughts on the project.

Kanye stated: “I must get final edit and approval on this doc before it releases on Netflix.”

He added: “Open the edit room immediately so I can be in charge of my own image.”

A noted highlight of the video was the argument between Kanye and Rhymefest.

Kanye started by saying: “God, I feel like he disrespected me.”

Rhymefest responded by saying: “Well, who are you to call yourself a genius.”

Subsequently, Kanye smiles briefly while looking at the camera.

Music is then heard in the background, with Kanye yelling in the recording studio and creating his own beats.
