Kardashian fans outraged after they spot ‘problematic’ detail about Kourtney’s Dolce & Gabbana wedding dress

Kardashian fans have spoken out, after Kourtney and new husband Travis Barker allowed so much of their wedding, including Kourtney’s dress, to be provided by Dolce & Gabbana.

The Italian luxury fashion house was founded in 1985 by Italian designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.

Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce have been accused of racist and controversial statements

The company, famous for its recognizable interlocking “DG” logo, produces everything from clothing and footwear, to handbags, sunglasses, jewellery and perfume.

But the founders have a history of accusations of racism and homophobia, along with controversial comments on everything from IVF treatments to cyberbullying.

Even the Kardashian family themselves have been targets of D&G.

Fans were surprised to see the Kardashians befriend the designers years after they were allegedly insulted by them online

In 2018, Instagram Fashion watchdog account Diet Prada reported that Stefano had allegedly commented on an image of the famous family by calling them: “The most cheap people in the world.”

Yet, according to Newsweek and other sources, the wedding was “hosted by Dolce and Gabbana,” and everyone from the bride and groom to family and guests were gifted (and expected wear) the designer’s clothing.

The luxury Italian brand also housed the newlyweds on their personal, $14 million superyacht.

Oh, and there was also a port-side pop-up shop just for wedding onlookers.

But their alleged comments aimed at the reality family are just the start of accusations thrown their way.

Around the same time, Gabbana faced backlash for describing a photo of Selena Gomez as “really ugly.”

One Reddit user snapped back: “I will never by anything D&G since they were mean to Selena Gomez. Like who even says that and Selena is so cute?”

IVF CONTROVERSY

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana made controversial comments against IVF

In March 2015, Domenico spoke out against In Vitro Fertilization in an interview with Italian magazine Panorama:

He said: “I am not convinced by those I call children of chemicals, synthetic children: Rented uterus, semen chosen from a catalog.

“The family is not a fad. In it, there is a supernatural sense of belonging. You are born to a mother and father — or at least that’s how it should be.”

After a public outrage, Domenico apologized for his insensitive comments in an interview with Vogue.

“I am so sorry. It was not my intention to offend anyone,” Domenico told Vogue‘s Sarah Mower during a conversation in Milan.

“I’ve done some soul-searching. I’ve talked to Stefano a lot about this.

“I’ve realized that my words were inappropriate, and I apologize. They are just kids.”

Kim, of course, has welcomed two children – daughter Chicago and son Psalm – via surrogate, while Kourtney is documenting her infertility struggles on the new series of The Kardashians.

Online, an Instagramer pondered: “Considering multiple members of the Kardashian family have used/contemplated using IVF and used surrogates, I find it very odd that they would work with them on something as grandiose as an entire wedding.”

RACIST CHARGES

The designers have faced years of racist charges

In 2012, the brand was accused of racism when they sent all-white models down their Milan fashion runway wearing colonial “Blackamoor” accessories.

The company denied the charges, and released a statement explaining the cultural context of such designs in Sicily.

“Moorish is a term used to define many peoples throughout history…In Sicily’s case it defines the conquerors of Sicily [from 827 to 902 AD]” the brand said at the time, per Fashionista.

But just a few years later, in 2015, Gabbana attended a party in blackface.

That same year, both designers made headlines when they said they opposed the idea of adoption for gay couples.

But regardless of their history, the Kardashians have been long-time fans of the design duo, with Khloe naming her late pet dog Gabbana, while Kylie had a pet chihuahua called Dolce.

Back online, fans were shocked the Kardashians would have anything to do with the designer duo, let alone essentially let them “sponsor” the wedding.

“A sponsored wedding is tacky. Sponsored by D&G is absolutely disgusting,” one fan ranted on Reddit. “Can’t believe they are still around after all they’ve said/done.”
