Katie said ITV would have taken better care of Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield

In a new interview with the Times, Katie claims ITV would have provided more security for its flagship stars Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.

She said: “…They wouldn’t do that to Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, would they? If they went away they’d have security people licking their arses, sweeping the f***ing floor for them. I’m the type of person who’ll stay in the same hotel as the crew, because they get cheaper hotels than the talent. Because I’m me, and I’m humble, people take advantage of it. Look what happened. I have to live with that for the rest of my life.”

We have contacted ITV for comment.

In September Katie opened up on about the harrowing ordeal in Channel 4 documentary, Trauma And Me.

The mum-of-five was with her children Junior, 17, and Princess, 15, at the time of the attack which happened as they were travelling from Johannesburg to Swaziland.

She said: “We were out in South Africa with the kids Junior and Princess with ITV. We had no security. Junior wanted a wee. We got out the car. And all I remember doing is saying… mum imagine if I jump down here.”

“Next thing you know a car pulled up, six guys in it, out with their guns. They did things to me in front of my kids in the car. They had a gun to my head. We thought we were going to die.”

The incident has had a lasting impact on both Katie, who was diagnosed with PTSD, and her family. Her life went off the rails in the years that followed as she tried to deal with what had happened.

And speaking to The Celeb Report in 2020, Katie recalled: “It was like something from a horror film. This big man in an Adidas hoody was shouting in my face, swearing and demanding I give him everything. And he was touching me down below.

“I grabbed a pillow and launched myself in front of the kids, trying to protect them, waiting for a bullet to hit me. I thought I was going to die. Police said it was a miracle they didn’t kill us.”
