Kelly Clarkson breaks down in tears over ‘feeling alone’ during Christmas special amid Brandon Blackstock divorce

KELLY Clarkson broke down in tears during her Christmas special on Wednesday while admitting she’s been “feeling along” amid her divorce.

The 39-year-old, who split from her husband last year, shared that she wrote her song, Merry Christmas (To the One I Used to Know), for those feeling down around the holiday like her.

While performing on her NBC Christmas special, the Voice coach opened up about how difficult things have been for her lately.

While the holidays are often a time for joy and cheer, she told viewers that she knows not everyone feels that way, including herself.

Kelly said: “Holidays come with a whole range of emotions.

“I’m gonna be real with y’all, when I wrote this next song I was crying my face off, which happens even at Christmastime, everyone.”

She explained: “I’d just put my kids to bed and I was just going through it, having a really hard time.

“It had been a really tough year for a lot of us, and I wrote this song for me, but also because there aren’t many holiday songs for people feeling alone or lost or just plain sad.”

Kelly and ex Brandon Blackstock share two kids, daughter River Rose, six, and son Remington Alexander, four.

The Voice coach filed for divorce in June 2020, citing “irreconcilable differences,” before winning primary custody of their kids.

After giving her introduction, Kelly started to sing her new song, Merry Christmas (To the One I Used to Know), and got choked up as she felt the pain of it all.

She later belted out her holiday breakup tune, Christmas Isn’t Canceled (Just You), and once again really leaned into all of the emotion she’d poured into it.

Kelly revealed she was “a little nervous about sharing” this latest tune as “it’s not your typical Christmas single.”

She continued: “But it was the first song that I wrote for this album and I wrote it because a lot of things were taken from us over the last couple of years — people, relationships, jobs, etc.

“There were so many things taken. But instead of looking at everything that’s gone wrong, we should be looking at all the things that have gone right.

“And that’s what my therapist tells me anyway so that’s who I’m singing to!

“But no matter what people try to take from you, nobody can cancel Christmas, y’all.”

The singer was officially granted a divorce in September.

Now that Kelly is single, the TV star is said to be ready to hit the dating scene again: “She wants a younger, up-and-coming country singer [who] understands the business.”
