NEARLY four decades have passed since children’s programme The Broom Cupboard first aired – and some of its presenters look completely different these days.
The beloved BBC show celebrated its 36th birthday last year and played home to a number of iconic presenters, including Andy Crane.
The popular kid’s show also helped catapult the careers of budding presenters Phillip Schofield, Andi Peters, Philippa Forrester, Toby Anstis, Zoe Ball and Josie D’Arby.
And who could forget the iconic Edd the Duck, Gordon the Gopher and Otis the Aardvark?
One memorable presenter in particular, though, was Andy – who joined the programme in 1986.
Following Schofield’s departure from the helm of the show, Andy was drafted in to replace the This Morning presenter, taking the reigns until 1990.
Appearing a fresh-faced 29-year-old at the time, Andy worked alongside Philip’s former sidekick and puppet Gordon, who would go on to join him on Going Live! the following year.
Andy, now 57, went on to work as a relief presenter on the iconic music show Top of the Pops and also presented show including Bad Influence! and Violet Berlin in the ‘90s.
He also presented Motormouth, What’s Up Doc? and Challenge TV, as well as being a news presenter for the now-defunct Channel M in Manchester.
Andy has also worked in radio throughout his career.
The 57-year-old has been riding the airwaves for Greatest Hits Radio since 2019 and presented for BBC Radio Manchester before that.
