KIM Kardashian brought fans along as she discussed her dyschromia skin disorder treatment with her doctor after a lengthy battle with psoriasis.
Through the years, Kim has been very open about her skin issues.
Kim shared a lengthy Instagram Story video shot alongside her doctor on Thursday.
In the clip, the pair discussed her disorder – which leads to a change in the color of the skin or nails – and her treatment plan.
Kim’s doctor began by saying: “We’re gonna talk about a term that sounds fancy, but it’s not.
“It’s called dyschromia. When someone gets a lot of, like, their professional makeup done and they have sun exposure and they’re traveling like you do, that sun and the inflammatory components of makeup and covering the pores can cause when skin regenerates – because our skin turns over – you can get dyschromia.
“Different pigments. We’re gonna have a treatment plan ready for her, step by step to slowly even all the tone out.”
Kim said in the clip: “Ready to go!”
She has been open with fans about her skin struggles for many years now, revealing early in Keeping Up With the Kardashians that she had been diagnosed with psoriasis.
HER JOURNEY
Kim penned a blog post for Kourtney Kardashian’s website, Poosh, about her journey with psoriasis – which she once said had gotten worse in the wake of her infamous Paris robbery.
She revealed that she struggles with both psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, and revealed some of the treatments that have helped her along the way.
Kim wrote: “Even though I always grew up with my mom having psoriasis and hearing her talk about her struggle, I really had no idea what my life would be like dealing with an autoimmune disease myself.
“It’s been 13 years since I experienced my first psoriasis flare-up. My journey has been very different from my mom’s, but I see so many similarities as well.
“She had it in her scalp and all over her body, and I’d see it all the time and remember her going to the tanning salon to try and ease it.”
Kim went on to say: “Getting UV rays directly on the spots really helped my mom. For me, however, that remedy would burn the areas and cause them to itch, so I always felt helpless.”
The reality star shared with readers that she is “the only child my mom passed down her autoimmune issue to.”
She revealed that she had her “first psoriasis flare-up” at 25, noting that it was treated with “a shot of cortisone” that got rid of it for five years. By her thirties, it was back.
Fans of Keeping Up With the Kardashians will recall Kim’s journey with alternative treatments.
She famously convinced Kourtney to share some of her breast milk in the hopes that it would clear up another psoriasis flare up.
Her psoriatic arthritis came on later in the game.
Kim recalled: “One night, I woke up to use the restroom and I physically couldn’t pick up my phone.
“I thought it was strange but maybe I just slept on my hands weird and I was so tired, I didn’t need to be checking my phone at that hour anyway.”
The problem persisted, she wrote, which led to her “freaking out.”
Her doctor diagnosed her with rheumatoid arthritis and lupus.
Kim recalled: “I immediately started to cry and felt so lost. You really can get in a crazy headspace when you think you have something.”
She later learned it was “a false positive,” but learned she did have psoriatic arthritis.
In the years since her diagnosis, her mindset has shifted: “I’ve become extremely comfortable with my psoriasis.”
Kim has been quiet about her psoriasis recently, though fans speculated in late 2021 that it may be the reason she’s been covering up so much.
SPEAKING OUT
In 2019, Kim was praised after she shared a series of snaps documenting a psoriasis flare and the ways in which she was attempting to treat it, as reported by Buzzfeed.
She announced the flare on Twitter, amid articles claiming she was having a “bad skin day.”
The reality star revealed she was sent to a “Chinese herbalist” who suggested a “nasty” drink as a possible remedy.
She said in a video about the idea: “I am super desperate with my psoriasis, so I went to a Chinese herbalist. I have my own mixture, I have to drink it twice a day and it is so nasty.
“Hopefully this works. We’ll see in six weeks.”
Kim also shared photos of a “detox smoothie,” telling her fans she was “trying it all.”
The smoothie was followed by UV light treatment.
She captioned a photo of a tanning booth: “My new best friend #psoriasis.”
Kim then shared a photo of her break out, captioning the post “Sexy.”
She also shared a selfie with a brown ointment all over her face and body, writing: “Psoriasis is the s**ts!”
