Best known for their hits This Ole House and Merry Christmas Everyone, Shakin’ Stevens could be in with a chance to take home the Strictly disco ball.

A source told the Daily Star: “Bosses have spent years trying to get Shaky on the show and are hopeful he’ll finally say yes.

“Shaky is considered a national treasure and is certain to be popular.

“His hip shaking on Top of the Pops is legendary.”

Wales-born Shaky, who’s real name is Michael Barratt, was hugely popular with statement moves and rock-and-roll songs.

The star most recently released an album, named Echoes of Our Times, in 2016 that garnered rave reviews, over three decades after his most popular hits.

It comes as ex-judge Bruno Tonioli appeared to take a swipe at his former Strictly co-stars whilst on the panel of Britain’s Got Talent.

Bruno swapped the BBC for ITV back in January and is becoming popular in his new role.

He controversially replaced former judge David Walliams, and is joined by Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden.

On tonight’s instalment of the talent show, he told the audience: “They say you’re only as good as the people you work with, and these people are the best.”

The Italian dancer previously dissed his old show, savagely stating when asked whether BGT was bigger than Strictly: “This is the biggest show on TV — I mean it, it is now that I’m here.”
