Line of Duty actor on Bond rumours and his dream leading lady

TOMMY JESSOP has got his eyes firmly fixed on MARGOT ROBBIE to play the role of leading lady – and his damsel in distress – in his new superhero movie.

The actor, who has Downs Syndrome, has had little time to look for love throughout his TV career, but now he’s keen for the Barbie actress to be his first shot at romance on screen.

The star hopes to get Barbie actress Margot Robbie on board

During filming for his new show Tommy Jessop Goes to Hollywood, the actor admits he has reached out to Margot’s people to try to arrange for her to screen test for the role.

She would join an impressive cast of actors potentially on board with the project, including Game Of Thrones star Kit Harrington as the bad guy and White Lotus’ Will Sharpe.

And while Margot is yet to respond, Tommy is hopeful as he jokes he “hasn’t got any no’s” from actors he’s already reached out to.

Tommy reveals: “I would want Barbie herself, otherwise known as Margot Robbie, playing my love interest in the superhero movie I am making.

“But I might also be a man on a mission to find a special someone at some point in my life.”

The actor has already flown to Hollywood to film and pitch for the project, alongside his big brother and producer Will as his cameraman.

And it’s all been documented in the new BBC show, Tommy Jessop Goes to Hollywood – due to air next Monday night.

The actor was inspired to pitch his own film – and get behind the camera for the first time ever – over a lack of disability representation.

Tommy explains: “I got into acting because I enjoy being the centre of attention, but the first person I had seen on screen with Down Syndrome was me.

“I wrote my own superhero film after watching countless movies and not seeing any representation – I think it’s about time we have a superhero with Down Syndrome.

“In my career, there’s been a lot of typecasting as a victim, but I want to be cast as a hero in my own movie.”

He plans to be joined by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson as his superhero sidekick, with the plot focusing on spreading good.

Tommy continues: “One of my superpowers would be changing people’s minds because I want to change how people think about Down Syndrome.

“I am a man on a mission to stop people being put in a box.

“We really should stop being hidden away and have a voice and be able to say what we want to do with our lives because if not, it does put you in a really bad place.

“We should give out more roles to people with learning disabilities to venture into the TV and film industry and find out what their skills and talents are.

“We should all get to be who we really want to be in our lives.”

Aside from his movie project, Tommy, who hit the big time when he portrayed Terry Boyle in Line Of Duty alongside Vicky McClure, has his sights firmly set on playing James Bond.

He adds: “It’s true, James Bond is my dream role – I’d like to save the day, be the one saving the world. It’ll all be shaken and not stirred.

“I’ve had practice wearing a tuxedo, I really enjoyed doing that, and the ladies would be hard work in that role – not!”

Tommy Jessop Goes to Hollywood airs on Monday at 9pm on BBC One
