Line of Duty star begs show boss to confirm fate of season 7 – and his response doesn’t bode well

LINE of Duty stars will be disappointed with the latest update about series seven from the notorious ‘H’ himself.

Actor Nigel Boyle played DS Ian Buckells in the popular crime drama series and dished the dirt on when or if fans could expect a seventh series.

Line of Duty’s DS Ian Buckell aka ‘H’ opened up about a new season of the police drama

He revealed he had chatted recently to the show’s executive producer Simon Heath about that very matter.

“I was chatting to Simon Heath earlier and I was saying, ‘Come on, mate. [What’s happening?]’ And he was like, ‘We’d kind of like to, but we don’t know if it’s going to happen’,” Nigel told RadioTimes.

“I said, ‘What’s the official line?’ And he said, ‘Well, there isn’t one’.”

Nigel’s update comes just days after star Martin Compston told fans the show’s creator Jed Mercurio may have another instalment on the horizon.

The TV star said the cast usually takes a one year break between each series before finding out if the show is set to return.

Appearing on The One Show, host Alex Jones quizzed the Scottish actor about a possible seventh series.

Reading out a viewer’s question, Alex asked: “Is there any truth about series seven of Line of Duty?”

He replied: “Look, it’s really satisfying how much people have taken it to their hearts and that there’s so much interest in whether we’re coming back or not.”

The actor explained the cast are currently all taking their usual break between new instalments – and said they have not heard from the creator just yet.

“We always take at least a year off,” he continued.

“And then Jed decides if there’s a story or not to tell.”

Martin added that a new series would only be created if there is a story worth telling.

He concluded: “He wouldn’t do it just for the sake of it.

“He’d only do it if he thinks it would take the story forward or there’s something there for people to respond to.”

But fanatics were soon devastated after its creator, Jed Mercurio, told BBC Breakfast last year that there were “no plans” in the works for a seventh season.

However, one of the show’s stars Vicky – who portrays Kate Fleming – has revealed what she knows about the rumours behind another instalment.

Speaking to The Guardian, McClure was asked the question that every fan of the series wants to know – and her response was enough to get people’s hearts racing.

She revealed: “I don’t know, there’s no word of it. I think we’ve all been really honest and said should that happen, we’re all game.

“I’ll just stick with the guys. I think when it comes to a close, it will be a natural close for us all.”

She added that she would 100 per cent be part of a new version of the show – but only if her co-stars Martin Compston and Adrian Dunbar wanted to do it too.

A record 12.8million viewers tuned in for the final episode of series six when it aired last May.
