LOOSE Women star Denise Welch broke down in tears on today’s show as she recalled the moment she lost her beloved dad Vin.
The 63-year-old has returned to the programme today for the first time since his death last month and since she caught Covid.
Reunited with her co-stars, the former Corrie actress cried as she discussed his last hours in hospital after he caught pneumonia on top of his existing pulmonary fibrosis.
Breaking down in tears, she explained: “I didn’t feel ready to come back until now and the show was very respectful of that.
“It’s weird because the last time I was here, I was asking you all to celebrate with me because dad after a long illness this year, the first time he had been poorly really ever in his life, and you know I spent a lot of this year in hospital when I was able to with him.
“And he’d made such a valiant recovery and we sort of loved him back to health we felt. Then he got what started as a temperature.
“He had paracetamol and it went down and we thought you know you don’t get overly panicky about something like that.”
She continued: “Unfortunately he had to go to hospital. He was furious that he had to go back.
“We kept saying, ‘Dad you’ve got to, it’s only for a few days’. Unfortunately it wasn’t just two or three days.
“He had pulmonary fibrosis, which he had lived with and hadn’t really caused him that much of a problem but the pneumonia on top, he just couldn’t eat.”
The heartbroken star added: “Then when we knew he wasn’t going to make it, the staff on his ward were incredible in letting us as a family… We were all with him when he went. Dad didn’t know he was going…”
