Love Island quitter Jake fights back tears as he watches Liberty’s breakdown live on After Sun

LOVE Island quitter Jake Cornish fought back tears as he was shown a clip of ex girlfriend Liberty Poole’s breakdown live on After Sun.

The former couple appeared on the spin-off show this evening after their shock decision to leave the villa just days before the final.

Jake struggled to watch Liberty’s breakdown

He was shown the emotional scene for the first time

The pair sat awkwardly side-by-side as they were quizzed by host Laura Whitmore, with Liberty firmly saying that romance is off the cards for her and Jake.

They were then shown the moment that Liberty burst into tears and dramatically walked out of the villa earlier this week – with Faye rushing to comfort her.

In the clip, the blonde beauty is sobbing as she tells her co-star: “I don’t want to stay in the villa with someone who doesn’t like me or love.”

Jake found the moment uncomfortable to watch, squirming in his seat as he saw the true extent of Liberty’s emotional distress for the first time.

Laura quipped that she was getting upset watching it back, with Jake replying: “I am as well to be honest with you… Ah, Jesus.

“It’s not nice to see, especially when that’s because of me… When you think that’s because of me…”

He then trailed off, looking emotional and blinking back tears as Liberty reflected on her decision to end the romance.

The pair ended the interview saying that they will stay friends, with Jake once again hitting back at claims that he is a game player.

The ex-Islander has been forced to defend himself after fans accused him of only coupling up with Liberty to win the £50,000 cash prize.

The two had been together since launch day, and appeared to be sure favourites to win before Liberty called time on their romance in a shock U-turn.

BEGINNING OF THE END

They first began to wobble on Movie Night, when the girls were shown clips of Jake encouraging the other boys to cheat in Casa Amor.

She was also left hurt when another scene showed him admitting that he didn’t want to “rip her clothes off”, suggesting that he didn’t fancy her.

Liberty’s suspicions were further raised when her boyfriend landed at the bottom of a public vote, and she accused him of playing up to the cameras when he stopped her from going to congratulate her best pal Kaz after she went official with Tyler.

She confronted him on this last week, with Jake using that opportunity to tell Liberty that he loves her – but when the giddy beauty gleefully shared the news with the girls they weren’t impressed, and warned her that he could just be saying what she wants to hear.

Their fellow Islanders then voted Jake and Liberty one of the least compatible couples on the show, and the pair narrowly missed getting dumped from the villa.

Their decision to quit the show threw Love Island into chaos, with producers forced to axe their last planned dumping as this year’s finalists are confirmed.

Millie and Liam, Kaz and Tyler, Chloe and Toby, and Faye and Teddy are now on the home-stretch to secure the crown tomorrow night.
