Reality Star Defends Sharing Updates on Social Media
Shaughna Phillips, a former contestant on the reality TV show Love Island, has hit back at critics who have been mom-shaming her for sharing too much about her child on social media. Phillips, 29, gave birth to her first child, Lucia, in April and has been regularly posting updates about her on her social media platforms. However, some viewers have taken issue with the amount of exposure Lucia is receiving, prompting Phillips to respond to the criticism.
Former Fan Expresses Disapproval via Direct Message
Phillips recently shared a screenshot of a direct message she received from a former fan who initially congratulated her on the birth of her child but later expressed disapproval when she continued to post about Lucia. The message stated, "Anything else but baby all the time." In response, Phillips acknowledged the feedback, stating, "I do sometimes think I should switch it up sometimes." However, she made it clear that her child is central to her life right now, saying, "My entire life is baby right now. So soz lol."
Previous Criticism Over Baby's Diet
This is not the first time that Phillips has faced criticism for her parenting choices. She was previously called out for feeding baby porridge to Lucia at what some believed was too early of an age. The NHS recommends introducing solid food to babies when they are around six months old, but Phillips explained that Lucia was only having "a few little spoons here and there" and encouraged parents to trust their own judgment and consult with a midwife if unsure.
Defiant Response to Mom-Shamers
Phillips took to her Instagram story to address the mom-shaming she has faced, comparing the reactions to her giving her child porridge to "telling people that I'm making Lucia's bottles with vodka now instead of water." She assured her followers that Lucia was trying four to six months porridge at just over four months old (18 weeks) and seemed unfazed by the criticism, saying, "So you can report me to the police but I think I'll get no further action, thanks huns."
No Plans to Stop Sharing Updates
Despite the backlash, Phillips confirmed that she has no intentions of stopping sharing updates and photos of her daughter anytime soon. The reality star rose to fame when she competed on the first-ever winter edition of Love Island on ITV2.
