LOVE Island’s Amy Day is “genuinely into Hugo”, insists her mum.
The 25-year-old actress from Surrey joined the show during Casa Amor week and caught the eye of P.E teacher Hugo Hammond, who she was accused of using to get into the main villa.
Viewers haven’t been convinced by their “connection”, but her mum, Sian, has revealed he is just her type and wants fans to see more of their relationship so they can see the “real” her.
She told The Celeb Report: “Some people might think Amy isn’t particularly into Hugo but as her mum I can honestly say it’s genuine.
“Her past boyfriends have always been someone she laughs with, banters with and someone with a great personality and we knew beforehand he was more her type having spoken to her than any of the other boys in there.”
The kiss
Amy and Hugo came under scrutiny when they shared their first kiss – after weeks of Hugo struggling to find a connection with anyone.
Some viewers felt he was disrespectful as he declared “job done” once they had finished, but Sian believes he was “under pressure”.
“There was a lot of hype around ‘that kiss’ and I genuinely think there was a lot of pressure on Hugo and he was super nervous,” she said.
“I’ve no doubt there’s been a lot more kisses since that the viewers haven’t seen.”
Since arriving back in Casa Amor, the couple have barely had any air time as the drama has been centred on others, which has been “frustrating” for her mum.
Sian admitted: “It’s been frustrating not to have seen more of Amy and Hugo’s relationship develop over the last few days because of all the dramas going on which has been a shame but choosing Hugo and what she chose to say about him came from the heart and I think we saw her feeling are entirely genuine.”
Sian believes her daughter’s motives to go on the show are simply to find a boyfriend – unlike others on the show – and revealed she’s had a testing time in her life due to Covid.
Tough time
She said: “The last 18 months have been incredibly difficult for Amy as she’s been used to performing all over the world but ended up working as an estate agent to keep herself busy.
“She’s had zero luck on the dating front so Love Island was a great opportunity for her to try and meet someone.”

Sian revealed: “Amy comes from a family of performers, grandparents and parents were in the performing arts, and her Dad and I actually met in a production of the musical Annie, smitten from first glances across the rehearsal room!
“Unlike the other girls, Amy isn’t a model or influencer and is completely unheard of, she entered the villa on a genuine basis to try and find love.”
And her mum couldn’t be prouder, saying: “We’re all super proud of Amy at home in our little village of Molesey in Surrey. The local support has been so lovely.
“Amy’s dad Philip and I have never really watched Love Island up until now so it’s been a real eye opener, especially the duvet cover which was more than enough for any mum to see, knowing Amy though it was all harmless fun.
“It is lovely seeing them all enjoy themselves and we’ve been missing Amy dreadfully.”
