LOVE Island, like all big shows, has seen a few backlashes over the years – but how many of these do you remember?
From the famously explosive postcard that dropped on the mat from Casa Amor, to Faye Winter’s meltdown and Danny Dyer’s tears, the villa is rarely short of drama.
Here we take a look at some of the biggest rows that cast a cloud over the Love Island sunshine…
Faye’s ‘toxic’ outburst
There is nowhere else to start but the moment that saw a staggering 24,763 complaints fly into the TV watchdog Ofcom.
The moment last year that saw Faye swore and screamed in partner Teddy‘s face, is now the most complained about moment in the show’s history.
Faye later apologised for the outburst – which came after unseen footage of Teddy was aired – said she’d learnt from the incident.
However, it clearly didn’t affect the ice-cool lad as they are still together.
Gemma and Davide’s kiss
Countless viewers threatened to complain to Ofcom after Gemma, who is 19, and Davide, 27, kissed on screen.
Indeed, more than 200 did objecting to the age gap between the two Islanders.
Her ex-foobtaller dad Michael even waded into the debate about her age saying: “She’s a mature 19. She’s a bit like me in that regard.
“I was playing for Liverpool when I was 17, and having to make friends with 23, 24, 25-year-olds.”
‘Aladdin’ race row
Viewers were up in arms in 2020 when Siannise Fudge referred to her partner Nas Majeed as Aladdin.
The show clocked up 272 complaints with the fuss that followed being described as a race row.
She told host Laura Whitmore after being coupled with Nas saying: “He’s lovely. As well, I love Princess Jasmine and he kind of looks like Aladdin.”
However, he didn’t seem bothered, replying: “Oh my God. Don’t even do that to me, I’m actually gassed now.”
The postcard of doom
Everyone likes to get a postcard, don’t they? Well they didn’t in Love Island last year.
In an episode that triggered a staggering 4,330 official complaints to Ofcom a misleading photo suggested to Faye that Teddy had been unfaithful in Casa Amor.
In fact he was kissing her in a dare game – and when Teddy returned from Casa Amor single, with Faye’s soft toy in his hand, she’d coupled up with new boy Sam. Oops.
Dani Dyer’s tears
LOVE Island came under fire for what some viewers called “cruel treatment” of villa sweeheart Dani Dyer back in 2018.
There were 650 complaints to Ofcom – at the time a show record – after she was played a clip of boyfriend Jack Fincham seeing his ex Ellie Jones in Casa Amor.
The programme was blasted by viewers over their decision to show her the video despite the fact he had remained entirely faithful to her.
