Love Island’s Hugo Hammond ‘told his pupils he was off to a new school in London’ before he quit for show

LOVE Island’s Hugo Hammond reportedly told his students he was going to a new school in London – when he had in fact quit to do the dating show.

The 24-year-old was working as a PE teacher at a school in Devon prior to landing a place in the villa – and the news has left the kids gobsmacked.

Hugo’s student had no idea he was going on Love Island

One person shared a conversation she had with her sister, who attended the school.

She captioned it: “My sister’s PE teacher is going on Love Island.”

In the message the student asks her sister if she has seen the line-up.

When she asks why, the student replies: “Because one of them is a PE teacher from school who said he’s leaving to work at London but he’s going on Love Island. (sic)”

A number of other students also posted videos on TikTok about Hugo being their teacher and telling them he was off to London.

Islanders are supposed to keep the fact they are going on the show top secret and usually only tell their closest friends and family.

Hugo loved his job as a PE teacher

Hugo will be looking for love in the villa

Hugo, who is the first contestant with a physical disability, admitted that  if his pupils tune in to watch him on Love Island “they will probably be a little bit shocked but hopefully they will be supportive and they will enjoy it”.

Speaking about his job, Hugo said: “I teach secondary school PE. Absolutely love my job. I love all my sports.

“It’s great to be able to pass on that enthusiasm to be physically active to the younger generation and hopefully they feel the same about me teaching them.”
