MALIN Andersson has admitted she felt like she was “dying inside” when Love Island drove her to plastic surgery after her self-esteem plummeted.
The 28-year-old jetted out to Turkey for liposuction and a breast uplift after being horrifically trolled over her appearance.
On Lookfantastic‘s new YouTube channel series, Malin has told about the dark side to Love Island fame after starring in series two back in 2015.
“It was overwhelming when I saw the trolling about my appearance,” said Malin, who suffered from an eating disorder before joining the show.
“That added fuel to the fire and when I came out I thought, ‘right I’ve got to change my whole f***ing appearance, I need to get this done and that done.’
“My self-esteem plummeted completely.
“Even though you put on a brave face and you’re on social media trying to pretend you’re living the high life, actually you’re dying inside.
“It’s all a farce, it’s absolute bull****.
“I booked myself into Turkey and went for a bit of lipo and a breast lift.
“But having that done didn’t solve anything that was going on in my head. It’s just a band aid.”
In the year after leaving Love Island, Malin’s life spiralled out of control.
Struggling to find work and still living at home, the star was given the heartbreaking news her mum’s breast cancer had returned and spread to her stomach.
Malin added: “I was in the party scene, still trying to get papped. It was so f***ing embarrassing, I had no real job – I was just promoting bull**** products trying to get dough.
“Everyone thinks you’re living the high life, but you’re suffering. I was suffering, still living at home with my mum who was ill.
“I was such a lost little soul. I didn’t know what I was doing with my life. I fell into a really dark place, the lowest I’d been to be fair.”
Sadly for Malin, there was more tragedy to come in her life.
Her mum, Consy, died from cancer in November 2017 aged 65.
Then in January 2019 her only child, her four-week-old daughter — also named Consy in honour of Malin’s mum and born seven weeks premature — passed away.
Later that year her baby’s father, Tom Kemp, was jailed for attacking her.
Her violent ex spent just three months in prison after he admitted an assault that left her “black and blue” and needing hospital treatment for a broken hand.
Malin has since bravely spoken out about surviving domestic abuse.
“Talking about things I’ve gone through, even though it’s painful, I know it can help someone else,” she added.
“The advice I’d give to anybody who has suffered what I’ve gone through, whether it’s eating disorders, or you’re stuck in a violent relationship or you’ve lost a child… everything interlinks, in that you need hope and perseverance.
“You yourself, you need hope, hope that things will in time get better and they will’.”
