Are the MAFS weddings legally binding?
Married at First Sight, the hit UK reality TV show where strangers tie the knot, has left fans wondering if the weddings are legally binding. Despite the couples exchanging vows and rings, the marriages on the show are not legally recognized. A spokesperson for the show explained that, following the Australian format, the couples make a lifelong commitment to each other at a glamorous ceremony overseen by a wedding celebrant. While the weddings may not be legally binding, the couples do have the option to get married for real at the end of the series.
Who pays for the weddings on MAFS?
While it's not clear who foots the entire bill, Channel 4 does cover the cost of the venue. The show has held weddings at prestigious locations such as North Mymms Park Hertfordshire’s Grade I Listed Elizabethan Stately Home and Castle Ashby in Northamptonshire. According to estimates, Channel 4 may have spent up to £24,850 on the reality stars' big day if it took place at Castle Ashby, including expenses such as venue hire, catering, wedding cake, flowers, and photography. Brides were also given a budget of £1,600 for their dresses. However, despite the hefty price tag, only one couple from the past five series has stayed together, making it a risky investment for Channel 4.
When is MAFS UK back on TV?
After a record-breaking 2022 series, Married at First Sight UK is returning bigger than ever in 2023. The upcoming series will have a total of 36 episodes, making it the largest series to date and the show's longest run at six weeks. Fans can tune in to the new season on Monday, September 18, 2023, at 9pm. Viewers can expect lots of drama, as insider sources have revealed that there has already been a wife swap and a huge argument, promising plenty of must-see moments.
