But Martin Fowler is struggling to trust the teacher
Money issues have weighed heavy on Stacey Slater’s mind, particularly as her daughter Lily Slater (played by Lillia Turner) is getting ready for motherhood at the young age of twelve.
Coming up next week on BBC One, a nervous Lily, Ricky Branning and their respective families attend the family conference group with their social workers.
As Stacey (Lacey Turner) and Martin Fowler (James Bye) jump in to discuss the primary care for the baby, Lily feels increasingly side-lined and irritated.
Jack Branning’s (Scott Maslen) comments don’t help the already tense situation.
But while the Slaters remain concerned for Lily’s well-being, they’ve found support in the form of Theo Hawthorne (William Ellis) who they met after Freddie Slater confronted him about his past behaviour.
Later, at the café, Stacey conspires to get Theo to meet them who offers to tutor Lily for free while she’s off school.
Stacey is thrilled, but Martin isn’t falling for it and questions why Theo is willing to do this.
Martin is adamant there’s more to Theo than meets the eye and he begins to dig for information via Freddie (Bobby Brazier).
He’s deeply concerned when Lily lets slip that Theo bought trainers for her and confronts Stacey, who tells him to back off.
Undeterred, Martin heads to Theo’s old school and learns the reasons he left – what could they be?
Back at the Slater house, Stacey is hosting a tea for Theo when Martin barges in and throws some accusations around.
How will Theo react?
This remains to be seen but the troubling character makes another appearance later on, despite Martin accusations.
Stacey tries to talk to Martin about his treatment of Theo and they come up with a set of rules.
However, when they return to the Slater house, neither Lily nor Theo is there, and Stacey is horrified to discover her daughter has been rushed to the hospital.
When they arrive, Martin grabs Theo and accuses him of hurting Lily.
Could he be right?
What is Theo hiding?
