Where is Maryland filmed?
Maryland is a three-part drama which stars Suranne Jones and Eve Best in the leading roles.
Filming for this series took place in different locations in Ireland.
The house where the sisters meet their mother’s friend Cathy is situated on the Howth peninsula, located east of Dublin.
Speaking about filming in Ireland, actress Eve said: “Love it, love it, love it. It was just so beautiful to be able to be there on location rather than in a studio.
“The Irish crew were also central to that. And being by the sea. Some of the others did go for a lot of sea swimming. I didn’t, the lake was quite enough for me.”
Where is Maryland set?
Despite being filmed in Ireland, Maryland is set on the Isle of Man.
According to Isle of Man Today newspaper, the reason why the series couldn’t be filmed there was because of its lack of provisions for corporation tax.
The UK has a tax credit scheme which provides companies with up front funding, provided they are within the UK corporation tax net.
Writer Ann-Marie O’Connor said although she had lived in Ireland and had family from the area she was “disappointed” not to have filmed on the Isle of Man.
“I love Ireland although I was really disappointed not be able to use the Isle of Man,” she told ITV.
“I would have loved to film there. There’s a real specificity to the island.
“But I think we’ve done a really good job of selling the Isle of Man with Ireland and the locations that we found.”
The series about two sisters who have grown apart over the years.
However, the pair are brought back together following the discovery of their mother’s body on the Isle of Man reunites them.
Arriving in a place they have never visited and with no idea why their mother was there, the sisters begin to unravel the secrets they never knew their beloved mum had.
The storyline is based on creator and leading actress Suranne Jones’ own experience with losing both her parents, and the grief that she felt following their deaths.
