THE Masked Singer’s Mo Gilligan did a savage impression of fellow judge Rita Ora – after she jokingly threatened him backstage.
Stand-up comedian Mo, 32, recently replaced comic Ken Jeong on the panel for series two of the surreal ITV celebrity singing competition.
Mo and Rita, along with Davina McCall and Jonathan Ross, are tasked with guessing which star is behind each vocal performance – made trickier by their outlandish, identity-disguising costume.
But he’s wasted no time in teasing co-star Rita Ora, who appears keen to hold on to her rep as ‘the best guesser’ on the show.
He joked that 30-year-old Rita found him backstage to ensure she’d remain the programme’s number one panellist.
On an upcoming episode, Mo told host Joel McDommett: “She came into my dressing room, she said ‘oi listen bruv, I’m the one who’s always winning this Masked Singer, yeah? So don’t you be guessin…’”
“I was like ‘cool Rita, fantastic, I didn’t know you spoke like that!’”
For laughs, he also added on a deep, male voice when impersonating Rita – which sent the audience into hysterics.
It seems Mo’s addition to The Masked Singer has stepped up the competition between judges dramatically.
Especially since no-one guessed the first unmasked singer – Murder On The Dancefloor hitmaker Sophie Ellis-Bextor – who was unveiled at the end of the show’s Boxing Day premiere.
Rita confessed: “They’re really hard [to guess]. I did come in confident and now I’m kind of like ‘not that easy’.
“But I’m hoping and I’m praying I can again leave with the title of the champion. Let’s see.”
And Davina McCall, 53, agreed that the competition had stepped up massively.
She added: “It’s too much to handle and not only am I feeling quite competitive but Mo, the newcomer, he’s already right up there trying to win.”
