FOODIES will be delighted to know a new series of MasterChef is set to hit their screens in upcoming days.
But there’s a major twist this year as production of the reality cooking show sealed a deal with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight.
Just as BBC One viewers are missing MasterChef: The Professionals and memories of Celebrity MasterChef are slowly starting to wear off since last summer, it’s time for the regular programme to make a return.
The broadcaster confirmed the premiere date of the brand show’s brand new series.
Culinary enthusiasts can expect the competition to kick off in mere days as the first episode will air on Wednesday, March 23, at the earlier time of 8pm.
But there’s already major changes to the schedule: MasterChef won’t be airing at all on Thursday but viewers will be treated to a double serving from 8pm to 9.30pm on Friday, March 25.
While there’s a shake-up on screens, changes are also occurring behind the scenes and MasterChef fans are likely to notice it.
For the first time since the BBC revived the format in 2005, MasterChef will not be recorded in London.
Production of the programme is worlds apart in Birmingham due to a multi-year deal made with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight.
This means MasterChef is now based at his Digbeth Loc studio space – and spin-off series like MasterChef: The Professionals and Celebrity MasterChef will follow suit for their own upcoming seasons.
BBC Director General Tim Davie said this was “great news for Birmingham and the BBC.”
“We said we would create jobs and investment, bringing decision-making and productions to the West Midlands as part of our ‘Across the UK’ plans.”
“Moving one of our biggest programme brands shows we are making that a reality.”
Despite the change of scenery, MasterChef won’t be getting any new hosts.
Long-standing presenters John Torode and Gregg Wallace have already promised they will be making the way to Birmingham to front the series.
When it comes to judging, presence of guest judges is yet to be confirmed although familiar faces can be expected here and there.
The new instalment is following the airing of celebrity Christmas specials which saw Judi Love and Rev Richard crowned winners.
But on March 23, amateurs will be taking the heat in the kitchen.
