What Happened?
The latest episode of MasterChef: The Professionals turned into chaos when a chef's dessert exploded in what can only be described as an 'absolute disaster.' The semi-finals were well underway, with eight chefs still battling it out for the title.
The Challenge
For the first challenge, the contestants were tasked with creating a dish that showcased the flavors of salt and pepper. Tom, one of the remaining chefs, decided to make a pink peppercorn chocolate tart.
The Explosion
However, disaster struck when Tom attempted to vacuum the air out of the chocolate he had placed in a glass bowl. After just a few seconds, there was a loud noise, and when Tom opened the lid of the machine, he found that the glass bowl had exploded inside.
The Judge's Reaction
Chef and judge Marcus Wareing approached Tom to find out what had happened. Clearly flustered, Tom explained that he was vacuuming the air out of the bowl when it exploded. Marcus instructed him to clean up the mess and get another chocolate filling for his tart, all while the clock was ticking.
Tom's Redemption
Despite the setback, Tom managed to recover and delivered a stunning tart to the judging panel. The dish featured black pepper pastry, pink peppercorn and blood orange pate de fruit, orange segments, orange gel, caramel, salt and pepper popcorn, and a tellicherry pepper ice cream.
The Judges' Verdict
Fellow judge Monica Galetti praised Tom's "wonderful presentation," while Gregg Wallace complimented his "really good pastry." Marcus Wareing, despite the mishap, described the dish as "fabulous" and acknowledged Tom's ability to overcome the challenge.
Fan Backlash
Not everyone was happy with Marcus Wareing's reaction to the explosion. Some viewers took to social media to express their displeasure, criticizing Marcus for being too harsh. One viewer questioned why Marcus sounded so cross at Tom, while another suggested that Marcus may have gotten out of the wrong side of the bed that day.
The Final Outcome
Despite the chaos, Tom managed to impress the judges and successfully completed the challenge. MasterChef: The Professionals continues to air on BBC One and is available on BBC iPlayer for those who missed the explosive episode.
