MASTERMIND viewers were left scratching their heads after a contestant ‘goes missing’ just minutes into the show.
Monday night’s episode of the BBC Two show saw host Clive Myrie asking the questions once again.
However, he only had three contestants to issue the questions to, as the fourth chair was empty.
Mastermind fans took to Twitter to discuss the situation, with one writing: “I’ve just tuned in, can someone tell me why one of the chairs on #mastermind is empty?”
Another added: “#mastermind Why is there an empty chair? ..”
Explaining the absence, Clive told viewers: “Now, you will have noticed that there are three contenders in the spotlight tonight, rather than the usual four.
“That’s because the person in seat two are to withdraw from this programme.”
He then went on to introduce the three remaining contenders.
But viewers were still perplexed, with one writing: “Three contestants? Couldn’t they find an intern to fill-in?”
Another tweeted: “Surely they could have found a late substitute for the missing contender on #Mastermind ? Weak episode.”
Clive, 57, joined Mastermind in March last year, taking over from John Humphrys after he decided to step down following 18 years on the programme.
Clive made his debut in August last year and also presents Celebrity Mastermind.
Mastermind airs Mondays at 8pm on BBC Two.
