THE news reporter has opened up about the real reason why he has rejected going on Strictly Come Dancing in the past.

Clive’s new travel series on the BBC sees him tour his favourite holiday destination, Italy
From Ukraine to the Middle East, he has brought the hard-hitting facts to our screens for years.
In 2021, Clive took over from John Humphrys as presenter of the long-running quiz show Mastermind, which he still hosts to this day.
Clive has revealed that he has been asked to go on the popular BBC dancing show Strictly Come Dancing a number of times.
But he has rejected their offers as he fears he would not be taken seriously as a journalist.
He told the Express.co.uk: “The thing is, if I fell off the gondola [for his Italy series] you might still be able to take me seriously. I slipped off, it was a one-off.
“I mean, a sequin top with nothing underneath? I have got tight pants on and funny shoes and I’m being spun on a dancefloor, would you take me seriously after that?
“I don’t think the public… I don’t know it just feels like it’s maybe one step too far down the other road.”
Clive has been hosting a new travel series on the BBC as he tours his favourite holiday destination, Italy.
He felt his new series, named Clive Myrie’s Italian Road Trip, was enough of a deviation away from his usual day job.
Talking about how the new show came about, he said: “It was actually out of the blue, the BBC came to me and said ‘Do you fancy being part of a travel series?’
“And I said ‘Well, if you seem to think the public will take me seriously running around in my shorts and flip-flops, then great’.
“I was keen to try and play to my strengths, which I hope are going into different places people haven’t been to that are a bit different.
“It’s not just me on a pedalo on Lake Como, as that wouldn’t be interesting for anybody.
“I don’t want journalism to define it but a little more content that allows for more context of where we are and why we are in this place.
“There’s music, there’s art, there’s culture and a lot of fun. It’s getting that balance right.”
Clive Myrie’s Italian Road Trip is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
