MATTHEW Wolfenden delighted fans as he shared a rare snap of his “mini me” son just days before his Emmerdale exit.

Fans told how Bowie, far right, was the ‘double’ of the ITV star

It came after the actor faced a race-row probe in 2021.

Off-screen, Matthew is married to ex Emmerdale co-star Charley Webb, 35, who played Debbie Dingle in the ITV soap between 2002 and 2021.

They are proud parents of three children and in 2009 welcomed their first son Buster into the world.

Second son Bowie arrived in December 2015 then in 2019, Charley gave birth to their third son Ace.

In July, the actor captured a tender moment showing himself and second-eldest Bowie, aged seven, at a local game of cricket.

They wore matching white shirts and enjoyed a cuddle on the outfield, with the youngster clutching onto a cricket ball.

Matthew hailed his son a “Mini Me,” in his Instagram image caption, followed with a red Emoji love heart.

One fan gushed: “Bowie is your double Matthew x”

Another commented: “Mathew if he turns out like you he wont go far wrong will he?” as a third put: “He is the image of you xx”

One then surmised: “Beautiful family.”

Another added: “Lovely to meet you today. I hope Bowie managed to some food too curb his hunger xx”

A fan simply rounded off with the word: “Gorgeous.”

The adorable insight into Matthew’s home-life came just days before his career change was revealed.

The popular star’s shock decision came as he blamed a lack of gritty storylines for his soap exit.

Matthew — loved by millions as shopkeeper David Metcalfe since 2006 — and co-star Isabel Hodgins were absent from the Yorkshire set for four months.

They returned but Matthew has told pals he has been bored with his character’s recent plotlines.

A TV source said: “Matthew has had an amazing time on the soap, but feels ready for a change.

“He hasn’t been getting any gritty storylines recently so wants to see what else is out there.

“He’s a fan favourite so will get a lot of support in whatever he decides to do next.

“He’s very excited about the opportunities available.

“He’s only just announced he is leaving so scriptwriters are working out his on-screen exit. It’s possible David could be killed off.”

In 2021 The Celeb Report on Sunday told how ITV had conducted a vigorous inquiry into allegations of a comment to a mixed-race actress, plus her claims that her accent was mimicked.

Bosses accepted the explanation from Matthew and Isabel — his former flame Victoria Sugden — that the alleged remark and mimicry were “misheard”.

No formal action was taken against the pair.
