FILMING on McDonald and Dodds has officially kicked off as a pop star joins the cast for the first acting role in a decade.

The hit ITV1 drama is returning for a fourth series with Tala Gouveia Jason Watkins reprising their roles.

Pixie Lott is joining the drama for a guest appearance

It sees the duo solve puzzling crimes which has seen them forge a close friendship.

And, in a guest appearance for the fourth series, pop star Pixie Lott will play a role in the show.

It marks the All About Tonight singer’s return to acting in over a decade.

Pixie, 32, last starred in the Inbetweeners Movie, which was released in 2011.

Other stars having guest roles include Line of Duty‘s Ace Bhatti as well as Lydia Leonard and Daniel Lapaine.

Meanwhile, World on Fire star Bhavik C Pankhania joins the line up permanently as DC Lee. 

Fan favourites will also be back as Chief Superintendent Ormond, DC Goldie.

The new series will comprise of three, two-hour films giving fans plenty to sink their teeth into.

McDonald and Dodds will kick off an investigation when a middle-aged woman is found shot dead in a rented flat.

The killer has removed all clues to her identity, but DNA reveals she went missing over 35 years ago.
