Netflix pulls the plug on Michelle Yeoh's action-comedy despite positive reviews
Michelle Yeoh's Netflix series The Brothers Sun has been cancelled after just one season – despite glowing reviews. The show landed on the global streaming site on January 4 but will not be returning for a second run.
Star-studded cast and creators
The series was created by Glee and American Horror Story co-creator Brad Falchuk and newcomer Byron Wu. In addition to Oscar-winner Yeoh, Justin Chien, Sam Song Li, Highdee Kuan, and Joon Lee also starred in the eight-part series.
Plot and reception
The action-comedy followed Chein, who portrayed a mobster going to Los Angeles to protect his estranged mother after his father was assassinated in Taipei. While praised by critics for her performance, the show reportedly struggled to reach a wider audience despite starting off as a hit.
Uncertain future
News of the cancellation was reported by The Hollywood Reporter, but a reason for the cancellation has not yet been confirmed. It is speculated that the series fell short of earning a renewal for a second season due to its viewership numbers.
