The presenter made the revelation during a chat with Mark Benton on Morning Live

But during today’s episode of Morning Live, Gethin revealed he had also had a go at acting in hit sci-fi series Doctor Who.

During a conversation with actor Mark Benton – who has also appeared in the show – Gethin revealed he knows Doctor Who writer Russell T Davies.

Gethin said: “I know Russell T is watching today, he’s a big fan of Morning Live, and I keep asking him if I can be in Doctor Who, he’s only ever cast me as monsters.

“I’ve been like a Dalek and a Cyberman, I’ve never made it as myself, but yeah, it’s a great role for sure.”

Mark then added: “Yeah he cast me and I got shot! I mean what’s going on Russell?

“I asked him, I said ‘can I come back as a monster because you won’t see my face?’ so please, I want to come back as a monster!”

Gethin played a Cyberman in a 2006 episode and then a Dalek operator in the final episode in 2008.

Earlier this week, Morning Live viewers were distracted by a major change after the show moved from London to Manchester.

After the opening credits, viewers saw an aerial shot of a glass building in Manchester as Gethin said: “Hello and welcome to Morning Live, we’ve moved to our brand new home, you might just be able to see the studio from the top of the building there.”

As the cameras returned to the new studio, Gethin sat on a green sofa while Kym sat on a pink arm chair as he joked to viewers: “We did think about popping out onto the balcony but Kym didn’t fancy it.”
