Brendan O'Carroll, the creator of Mrs Brown's Boys, has unveiled exciting details about the upcoming live show and the future of the beloved character, which is bound to stir controversy.
Mrs Brown's Boys creator has revealed plans for live show which is sure to ruffle feathers
Brendan is back as Mrs Brown Rides Again
Agnes Brown is making a comeback in 2023. The iconic Irish battle axe will not only grace our screens in a new series of the popular BBC comedy in September, but Mrs Brown will also embark on a nationwide live show titled Mrs Brown Rides Again.
Mrs Brown has found success across various platforms, including film, TV, stage, and radio. The hit series even spawned a movie in 2014 and annual Christmas specials.
Creator and star Brendan, now 68, will don the familiar wig and one of Mrs Brown's signature floral dresses to deliver a fresh and entertaining performance.
Speaking to the Lancashire Post, Brendan highlighted the universal appeal of Mrs Brown, describing her as "that wild aunt or grandma that turns up [to] the wedding all dressed to the nines, but after three or four vodkas, she stands on the table waving their knickers in the air."
The show that won't go quietly
The live show, set to take place at Blackpool Opera House for three nights in November, portrays Mammy's final days at home with her dysfunctional family. But according to Brendan, she won't go quietly.
Brendan expressed his desire to continue portraying Mrs Brown for as long as possible, even joking that he wants to be dragged off the stage, with the audience laughing, thinking it's part of the show. "You'll have to shoot me," he added.
Viewers are definitely in for a long night if that scenario actually happens during the live show.
Brendan is thrilled to return to Blackpool next month after his sold-out show there following the pandemic. He described it as a truly special experience and a "different vibe" for him as a performer.
The reappearance of Mrs Brown and the highly anticipated live show is a dream come true for long-time fans. However, it's also sure to stir controversy, as some BBC viewers have called for the show to be cancelled.
A controversial alter ego
Brendan acknowledged the controversial nature of Mrs Brown, admitting that the character gets away with things he never could. However, he brushed off concerns about cancel culture, stating that he doesn't do Twitter or social media.
In the new stage play, written before the latest season of the TV series, Brendan claims that it is the funniest of the five plays he has written, surpassing even Mrs Brown D'Musical.
He teased that the audience will be in for a hilarious and enjoyable experience, providing a much-needed escape from the current state of affairs. "Laughter is the best medicine," Brendan added.
Mrs Brown Rides Again, starring Brendan O'Carroll alongside his wife Jennifer Gibney, who plays Mrs Brown's daughter, promises to be the funniest live show to date.
The show will be live in Blackpool from November 2nd to November 4th.
