Mrs Brown’s Boys viewers all have the same complaint about this year’s Christmas special

Mrs Brown’s Boys viewers complained that “they’ve suffered enough” after watching tonight’s Christmas special.

It’s a Marmite TV show but for some fans of Brendan O’Carroll’s comedy, the Christmas special left viewers reaching for the remote.

Mrs Brown’s Boys viewers were baffled that the show had returned for another Christmas special

The show premiered in 2011

There will be two visits to Finglas this year, with another special airing on New Years Day.

The first episode, titled Mammy’s Mechanical Merriment, saw Agnes Brown, played by actor Brendan, 66, join a church choir in Finglas.

Meanwhile, Buster – played by Danny O’Carroll -was busy trying to find a Christmas tree, and Dermot, played by Paddy Houlihan, organised a Murder Mystery fundraiser for an outlandish cause to help alcoholic greyhounds.

Agnes was also tasked with starting a Christmas diet by daughter Maria, after she piled on the lockdown pounds.

However, viewers were left laughing for all the wrong reasons.

One wrote: “Wondering if I can find anyone who thinks Mrs Brown’s Boys is remotely funny… #mrsbrownsboys.”

Another posted: “Think #mrsbrownsboys has had its day.”

However, many fans were delighted with the special festive episode, with one writing: “I always look forward to seeing #MrsBrownsBoys on Christmas Day! Gives me such a laugh after such a good day.”

Another added: “#mrsbrownsboys Absolutely class this year – loved it.”

A third chimed in: “Thoroughly enjoyed @MrsBrownsBoys tonight! Not laughed like that in a long time! Fantastic! Can’t wait for the #NYE Special! #mrsbrownsboys#Christmas#bbcone.”

The BBC sitcom will return on New Year’s Day.

The second episode will pick up where things left off as New Year comes around, with Agnes reunited with Grandad’s brother Micky.

In true New Year’s spirit, the family are set to have a heart-to-heart across the two episodes as their story continues.

But after the BBC announced the upcoming double special, viewers took to social media to complain over the line-up and slam the show as “insufferable”.

“Don’t turn on the BBC over Christmas, not one but TWO Mrs Brown’s Boys,” someone wrote “What new form of hell is this?”

Mrs Brown’s Boys is just one of a handful of hit BBC shows getting their own special episode this festive season.

Other programmes included Death in Paradise, Call the Midwife, Strictly Come Dancing and Doctor Who who aired Christmas specials.

A festive-themed The Repair Shop and two brand new nature films from Sir David Attenborough was also been added to the line-up.

The BBC’s chief content officer, Charlotte Moore, shared her hopes that the programmes will “bring everyone together to share the festive season”.

“There’s a stocking full of special programmes to enthral and enchant featuring your favourite stars and characters, whatever your mood,” she said.
